Should be better at this price

There are some things to like about this knife, but for the price point the execution should be better. Overall design is clean, modern and geometric. The blade is a flat grind to a decent edge with a short drop point and a nail hole that is easy to access. Good thickness at the top and feels sturdy. Like most slip-joints, there is a bit of a "two-stage" opening feel. Slip joint lock tension is low and the blade frequently tries to close back up when any reverse pressure is applied like pulling out of thick cardboard or an apple. Fit and finish are good with some barely noticeable areas of overlap or misfit between the scales and the metal. The pry bar is useful when not used as a key ring holder.

The biggest flaw with mine is the micarta. Micarta scales should have texture and grip from the resin and fiber and these scales do not. They are very smooth and even slippery and have been beveled on the edges leaving them unfinished and friable. Perhaps the metal scales are more functional.

Excellent EDC

Fits nicely in the cash band from Recycled Firefighter, great combo. Sharp edge. Really sturdy for a little guy.

Great Blade

The blade on the Elko is substantial and a great tool. I'm not fond of the "bottle opener", but in a pinch at least you have one.

If I felt this was priced correctly I would've given a 5.
