James Brand Knife
Looks beautiful and open and shut action is fantastic. Elegant, comfortable to grip and easy to carry everday.
Very sharp out of the box.
The Carter - A Really Good Knife - Should be 5 Stars
My collection of folding knives goes back over 50 years. I have always carried a pocket knife and am never without one. I have over 100 in my collection. (this isn't bragging, its obsessive)
For me, these are not weapons for self defense or backcountry survival, these are tools that I use on a daily basis.
I have a James Brand Chapter and Carter. Both are the same overall length of 6.5" Both are well build and worthy of every day carry. I would score both at 5 stars however, The Carter I bought (Black Micarta + Damascus) came to me with a little play in the blade and the blade was not centered. This may not be a big deal to most but for me, any knife made in China competing in the American built knife world can not afford to have these quality issues. We Knives and Civivi Knives are good examples of great quality control for the Chinese made knives. Don't get me wrong, I really like the Carter, it fits well in the hand, super pocket friendly, great blade shape and was delivered with a fine edge on the blade. It's on the smaller size at 6.5" overall, but sometimes, depending on what pants and type of pockets, this is absolutely the perfect knife. I carry it and use it often. Mine was $220.00. A fair price with the exception of the blade issues listed above. Get control of the quality issues and it will be a homerun. As far as the Chapter, there is only one thing I wish was different, the tip down clip. This is probably more my problem then a knife problem. I am just so used…
Beautiful knife but not sharp
The knife feels good in my hand, opens / closes perfectly and customer care is incredible. Where it fall short for me is in its sharpness. On a scale of 1 being butter knife, and 10 shaving razor it falls at about a 4 to 5. I need to sharpen it, and I am irritated that a 120$ knife needs sharpening out of the box.
The James Brand
Sorry to hear about your experience with The Carter. All of our knives are sharpened at 15 degrees on each side at the factory.
If you reach out to customerservice@thejamesbrand, we would love to replace you with a brand new razor sharp unit.
Carter …a perfect knife
Great design, I really like the sidekick, size is perfect.
This is my 2nd James knife and it is just as well built as the 1st one I bought... Great job!
