the Benton

Mind meets hand.

The Benton uses a 304 stainless steel barrel design, which means you won’t crack your cartridge – keeping the ink where it’s meant to be, on the page. With its pusher-mounted lanyard, you can pull it from your pocket easily, or you can keep it at the ready with the PVD-coated steel pocket clip (or both). The Benton will become a staple of your everyday-carry before you know it.

Solid pen

I like the weight and feel of the work pen. I’m not crazy about the ink cartridge, but I can always mess around with that. It feels very solid, and the clip feels like it’s on very tight. I like the look of the lanyard and it’s usefulness. Overall, it’s a very nice pen.

awesome!!

The pen is excellent and to me is the right fit. It is not bulky and the construction is sturdy. I would like to have the choice of blue ink but that is something of a quick fix. I strongly recommend this pen for everyday use and EDC. It is a very stylish pen as well.

Underwhelmed (at Best)

I hate to say it but I'm pretty bummed out by the feel and finish of this pen. I've used it for a couple weeks and I want to like it, but I'm disappointed. I've been familiar with James knives for a long time and have always been impressed by their build quality. The metal and material used for the knives' scales is always well finished, tolerances seem really precise and the movement of bearings is always smooth. The knives seem purposefully made and refined, so that was my expectation when paying $60 for this pen. I was hoping for a similarly solid, weighty writing tool with nice, crisp mechanics, but that hasn't been my experience, unfortunately. The action of the pusher / "clicker" button at the top of the pen works fine, but the finish of the button is such that it makes a rough scraping sound as it rubs against the inside of the barrel. What's more annoying, though, is that the Schmidt 900 cartridge doesn't fit tightly enough inside the barrel. It rattles around a bit when you handle the pen and the tip of the cartridge often knocks against the tip of the barrel slightly as you write. This, combined with the fact that the barrel is really not very heavy (to me, it doesn't feel like a quality steel barrel) just makes the pen feel cheap and unrefined. Also I'm not sure what the point is of the lanyard - seems a little goofy dangling off the top of the pen. (I took it off - I never had a problem getting a pen out of my pocket in the first place.)

I wouldn't have a…

Superior quality with minimalism in mind.

After researching many pens I continuously found myself returning to The James Brand. The pen's simplistic design and high quality materials drew me in, no pun intended. It's effortless to write with and feels great in hand.
