A daily workhorse.
The Ellis uses a lockback design so that you can do real work with a tool that locks; no more busted knuckles turning screws. Other features include a partially-serrated drop point blade, a combination bottle-opener and screwdriver, our "All Things"® scraper and pry and a bail loop for attaching to your keys, carabiner or backpack.
Awesome pocket knife
A very well made knife , light weight and durable I really like the bottle opener and the drop point blade.
I dig the Ellis for EDC , but wish there was a way to attach a pocket clip. I don’t like just dropping in my pocket and having to dig around for it. Bit disappointed the second edition didn’t upgrade to a pocket clip.
Durable, well-built, perfect for EDC
With the horn-rimmed glasses, baseball caps, and traditional hallmarks of your stereotypical "hipster," I found myself enamored with the aesthetics of the James Brand Ellis. I was looking for a well-built EDC knife, and once I held the Ellis in my hand, was impressed with its build quality, heft, and ease-of-use. I have used every function of this comprehensive, yet stripped-down, everyday tool. The scraper to remove tape from my desk, the serrated blade to cut through a rope, and the bottle opener for happy hour. If I had one qualm with this piece, however, is I am worried about how the polished stainless steel of the blade will age over time. Overall, I am continuously impressed with the Ellis and plan on carrying it for quite some time. –CP
Great look, excellent quality!
I recently received my James Brand Ellis. I had the good fortune to purchase the new G10 Bone colored grip with black blades. This little knife has everything I need in an EDC knife - sharp blade, screw driver, bottle opener and pry point. Overall, excellent quality knife with a great, and for me, unique look. As one reviewer stated, I found the lock a bit stiff at first, but some good quality knife lube and a number of cycles and it is loosening up nicely. I have several knives from quality manufactures and I feel this is right up there with the best. This is my first James Brand knife, but certainly not the last. Very happy with this purchase!
Awesome utility - Tricky release
I loved the first iteration of this knife (was one of the LTD purchasers). It was incredibly smooth to operate and the exterior was really satisfying to the touch. Ended up opting for the black version of the Ellis after the recall and I can't seem to figure out how to efficiently operate the new double lock back. The release is really narrow and I end up having to try to jam my nail at it to get it to budge. Not sure if that is normal, but it is a little frustrating. Otherwise, I really do enjoy the overall knife.
